Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. Deuteronomy 6:4-9
Church ministries tend to overlap because categories are not uniform. In a clear way, for example, group ministries (i.e., children, youth, college, young adults, WIC, senior adults) address life-stage groupings, but when functions such as education, music, community groups, and missions are addressed, they cross category lines. Staffing at Pear Orchard crosses both directions, so “clean” categories are difficult to define. Christian Education, therefore, in our purview is not an additional separate segment from Children, Youth, College, WIC, or Senior Adults, but cross-sects each of those and is called to both inform the other “departments” and provide oversight for their educational aspects.
