Adult Sunday School Classes

May – August, 2012 (beginning May 6th)

The Privilege and Power of Prayer
The purpose of this class is to grow in our ability and willingness to pray Christ-centered prayers. Our studies will be down to earth and practical as we delve into some of the richest prayers ever written both in scripture and extra-Biblical literature. James 5:16 says, “The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.” God changes lives through prayer, and He calls us to pray to Him “without ceasing.” An almost universal confession among believers is our weakness in prayer. This class seeks to strengthen our faith resulting in a stronger prayer life.

What is the Gospel?
We hear and use the term “the Gospel” a lot, but what is the Gospel? We will look at Scripture to see the Gospel in the Old Testament, in the words and actions of Christ, and especially the Gospel that Paul preached. We will also look at false and other “Gospels” that have been, and are still, prevalent in the Church. We will be developing a Genesis-to-Revelation perspective on God’s grace and mercy to His people in Christ – The Gospel.

Resurrecting Marriage and Family Life
“If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” (Colossians 3:1-2) Using Colossians 3 as the foundation, this course will call us onward to a “resurrected” and reinvigorated marriage and family life. The dual focus will be on marriage AND parenting—two areas of life that most need to be strengthened in today’s world.
Teacher: John Kwasny

Cultural Courage: The Costly Components of a Consistent Counter-Culture
Cultural Courage explores the essential attributes of the fabric of human culture which is woven out of the totality of human life. It will explain why mere intellectual assent to a Christian worldview is insufficient to produce a consistent Christian counter-culture. It will explore fallen culture’s powerful demands for conformity which continuously assault the Lordship of Jesus Christ over all things. It will examine the essential roles of the Christian family and of the Christian Church in fabricating a Christian alternative. The course will explore God’s plan for Christians to exercise cultural leadership, creating a consistent, comprehensive, Christian culture as a compelling alternative before a watching, fallen world. The course will explore the costly courageous discipleship decisions that are necessary for Christian’s to submit to Christ’s Lordship as a faithful “salt and light” presence before a hostile watching world.
